Dear Mental Health Professional,
How would you like to help children, youth, single adults, couples,
families, and groups of respondents with problems you may not know too much
about? How would you like to learn new skills and approaches appropriate to the 21st century? How would you like to become more effective and perhaps more efficient in your practice? How would you like to move to the next level of more directive, interactive, and possibly more effective practice? If your answer to most if not all of these questions is YES, perhaps you may consider adding mental health workbooks to your practice, using distance, programmed writing. There are literally hundreds of workbooks available on the market (L'Abate, 2004a) to cover and match specifically most known clinical and non-clinical conditions. These workbooks and written assignments can be administered as structured interviews in face-to-face talk-based psychotherapy, especially if you are not familiar with a specific clinical condition and as home-work assignments in-between sessions in your office. Sometimes, you could offer these homework assignments with fewer face-to-face contacts when participants are not covered by insurance or cannot afford too many psychotherapy sessions.
Workbooks for Better Living (WFBL) was founded to produce low-cost workbooks to be administered to respondents by qualified mental health (MH) professionals. A workbook consists of a series of assignments or homework assignments comprised of questions or tasks to be administered for educational, para-preventive, or para-therapeutic purposes. Assignments can be administered through face-to-face interaction, and delivered at a distance from respondents through mail, fax, or computer. These workbooks can be used also as software for Computer-Assisted Interventions (CAI).
